While Sprint and T-Mobile have been offering WiFi calls ever since Apple introduced such an options – AT&T and Verizon didn’t enter the game until fall 2015. Firstly, AT&T asked the FCC to permit launching the service on its network. Then Verizon WiFi calling iPhone waiver was waiting for the approval and it looks like subscribers will soon get the support for WiFi calls on iOS 9.1 or upcoming iOS 9.2.
Initially iPhone 5 Verizon WiFi calling launch was supposed to take place in mid 2015 however these plans didn’t come alive until late 2015. It also looks that by Christmas we’ll already get the new service running and available for usage on the U.S. mobile operator’s network. This could be a nice Christmas gift from Verizon to all its subscribers who are not in hurry to SIM unlock Verizon iPhone 6s or other model and choose a different network that is already offering WiFi calling and other bonuses.

This was an important step. The carrier acted just like AT&T did and wantsto offer the service without TTY support. Verizon promises to bring teletypewriter option by the end of 2017. While this option can drain iPhone battery pretty fast it can be also very useful when you wish to stay connected and your network signal doesn’t let you make phone calls. Verizon doesn’t specify when it is planning to roll out WiFi support. It could happen by Christmas 2015 if the carrier doesn’t postpone the launch date.
